When was the last time you gave your house a super clean? Although it doesn't seem like it, giving the environment a general one can bring many benefits to our health. In addition to the familiar feeling of well-being that the smell of a clean house brings us, doing household chores can also help to relax and reduce stress levels

1. Helps the respiratory system

One of the main benefits of keeping the house clean is the reduction in the amount of dust that is installed on furniture and objects, such as curtains and rugs. In addition, environments that go a long time without receiving a good cleaning end up favoring the proliferation of fungi and bacteria.

And it is precisely in this combination that the danger lies. The accumulation of dust and the presence of fungi and bacteria can be extremely harmful to the human respiratory system, especially for people who already have a history of diseases such as asthma and rhinitis.

Therefore, the ideal is to leave the rooms always clean and airy, opening doors and windows so that there is air circulation and the entry of sunlight. Another nice tip is to remember to frequently vacuum objects that naturally favor the accumulation of dust, such as carpets, rugs, pillows, curtains and blinds. That way, with a clean and airy house, you and your family will breathe much better.

2. Reduces anxiety and stress levels

Many academic studies show that performing household chores can help improve mental health and emotional stability. In one of them, conducted by the University of California, researchers found that people who live in disorganized places tend to suffer more from stress.

They came to this conclusion after bringing together 30 couples to analyze their respective hormone levels in relation to the state of their homes. All couples who lived in environments where cleaning was less frequent had a higher level of cortisol, known as the stress hormone, in their blood.

Another study, carried out in England and published by the British Journal of Sports Magazine, showed that twenty minutes a day spent on household activities is enough to considerably reduce stress levels and symptoms of anxiety and depression. Therefore, dedicating some time to keep the house clean can be a good alternative to help combat the stress that ends up being part of the routine of most people these days.

3. Contributes to physical exercise

If you don't have enough time or money available to go to the gym, be aware that cleaning the house can be an excellent way to get out of a sedentary lifestyle and practice physical activity. This was shown by a study by Boston University carried out with more than two thousand men and women, with an average age of 47 years, in the United States.

During the research, participants used a sensor to track all their activities throughout the day and a parallel between people who practiced household chores or physical exercise with others who did not do any kind of activity.

At the end of the study, the researchers concluded that the benefits found in practicing ten minutes of daily activities, such as cleaning the house and climbing the stairs, were similar to those of more intense exercise, such as walking outdoors or on a treadmill. The results also showed that all people who did any type of exercise had lower Body Mass Index (BMI) and cholesterol when compared to participants who remained sedentary.

4. Favors creativity and well-being

In addition to contributing to a more organized and practical routine, a clean environment where everything has its proper place also favors creativity and a sense of well-being. After all, it's very difficult to be creative and feel good in the midst of chaos and dirt, isn't it?

A tip that can help keep the house clean but without overloading the routine is to divide the housekeeping tasks over the days of the week. To do this, create a table and intersperse lighter activities, such as washing the dishes, with others that require a little more time, such as organizing a room or vacuuming the house. That way, everything ends up becoming more balanced and your home will always be in order.

So, what did you think of these benefits that keeping a clean house can bring to our lives? Do you know any other benefits that we haven't mentioned here? Share with us in the comment
